Blog Feature

May 23, 2024

The following items will be deployed on May 23, 2024. Please note that this list doesn’t include other internal and regular maintenance work that BenchPrep is releasing.

New Features

Hide exam dashboard masthead feature

We've introduced a new feature access that allows content managers to hide the masthead of the exam dashboard page, including completion bar and average score indicators. This feature access, ‘Hide Exam Dashboard Masthead,’ is turned off by default, offering content managers the discretion to enable it as needed via the course level settings. By allowing content managers to customize the dashboard view, this update empowers them to better manage learners' progress and emphasize specific milestones within their learning journey.

Improved tab management for increased exam security

We've improved the security of the exam process by implementing tighter control over browser tab usage during active exams, providing a more secure environment for learning organizations. When learners are actively taking an exam and attempt to open a second tab in the same browser, a modal will appear with the message: "Looks like you’ve opened another tab from this website. Using multiple tabs while taking an exam is not allowed. Please close this tab and navigate back to your original tab to continue taking your exam.” This modal will appear for all types of exams, including full-length, dynamic, and side-by-side.

Enhancements

Enhanced user search in in-app messages

We've introduced a search box within the "Add an Individual" pop-up modal for in-app messages, allowing users to quickly locate specific recipients. With this enhancement, users can search for individuals by Name, ID, or SIS ID, streamlining the process of selecting recipients without the need for manual scrolling or filtering. This improvement enhances user efficiency, enabling easier and faster selection of individual students from long recipient lists when sending in-app messages.

Improved grade pass-back for LTI deep-linking

We've enhanced grade pass-back functionality for LTI deep-linking, ensuring that grades are transmitted back regardless of how content is linked. With this update, grades will now be sent back through grade pass-back services for all grade-containing content, including exams, practice questions, and Skillable labs. This improvement simplifies the workflow for admins creating LTI deep-links, ensuring seamless transmission of grades for linked study tasks, exams, or other grade-able items.

Updated table entry question display for Side by Side question display

We've implemented changes to the user experience of table entry questions within Side by Side questions to ensure a more uniform experience. For standalone questions, the question now appears on the left with the rationale on the right. Additionally, for table entry questions with passages, the layout showcases the passage on the left and the question on the right, optimizing readability and comprehension. This update promotes ease of navigation and comprehension, allowing users to focus more on the content and less on adjusting to varying question formats.

Enhanced navigation in BluePrint

We've expanded navigability between applications from BluePrint, ensuring seamless access to other applications. Now, users can easily navigate to Console and Learning Hub directly from BluePrint, provided they have access to these applications. This improvement enhances user experience by eliminating navigation barriers, allowing smooth transitions between BluePrint and other relevant applications.

Enhanced question preview for content managers in BluePrint

We've improved the question preview functionality in BluePrint to better meet the needs of content managers, allowing for a more comprehensive view of questions. Click the expand icon next to the Preview column to preview all questions on the page without hovering over. The preview will display up to 400 characters, empowering content managers to make more informed decisions and streamline their workflow by offering greater visibility into question details directly within BluePrint.

Updated data scope for question answer results report

The question_answer_results report will now be limited to 6 months of data, instead of all historical data, enhancing performance and reducing the likelihood of timeouts. If data older than 6 months is needed, please submit a support request.

Upcoming Console Analytics Deployment on May 21, 2024

Shortly prior to the BenchPrep product release on May 23, 2024, a deployment targeting only Console Analytics dashboards and specifically impacting users of Console Analytics is scheduled for the afternoon of Tuesday, May 21, 2024.

The BenchPrep Knowledge Base is continuously updated to reflect implemented changes.

This targeted deployment will enhance clarity and provide more comprehensive data, especially regarding analytics at the Branch and Group levels (applicable to organizations utilizing BenchPrep’s branching hierarchy in the Enterprise Engine). This also includes reporting on External Assets, Labs, and Performance-Based Questions (PBQs). The full list of updates is below:

Dashboard label updates

Labels in select Console Analytics dashboards have been revised for clarity and consistency. Examples include: "Last active in course" has been changed to "Last Activity," and "Title" has been updated to "Lab Name.”

Simplified Branch Dashboard for Group comparison

To facilitate easier comparison across multiple Groups, we've updated the Branch Dashboard in Console Analytics. Now, users can select multiple Groups within a single view. Additionally, selectable tabs have been introduced to display Overall Totals and Progress & Performance. These enhancements aim to provide a more intuitive user experience, supported by updates to the accompanying text.

Enhanced Console Analytics dashboards with external assets

Dashboards within Console Analytics will undergo updates and enhancements to improve analytics depth and clarity regarding external assets, Labs, and Performance-Based Questions (PBQs). These updates will involve changing labels and adding incremental data points to the following dashboards: Branch/Group Dashboard, Branch/Group Course Detail Dashboard, User Dashboard, and User Course Detail Dashboard.

The Labs tab of the User Course Details Dashboard within Console Analytics will be updated to enhance learner engagement with Labs. This update will include label changes and the addition of extra data points.

Last Data Sync timestamp returns to Console Analytics

The Last Data Sync date and time stamp is being reintroduced in Console Analytics dashboards to ensure users are informed of the latest data refresh.

Updated hover labels for utilization and psychometric dashboards

To enhance data granularity within specific Console Analytics dashboards, we are updating labels presented on the hover state within the utilization and psychometric dashboards to ensure greater clarity and conciseness.
